Situated Research: Consultancy, Training and Research shaping ethical places.

WHAT WE DO
Situated Research works with practitioners and institutions to bring depth, clarity, and ethical reflection to public realm projects. We embed rich, human-focused research into the design process — from the first idea through to delivery and review.

Our approach is collaborative and values-led. We believe that well-designed places emerge from a balance of rigorous thinking, creative practice, and deep contextual knowledge. By bridging design and research, we create work that is practical, imaginative, and rooted in real-world needs.

We shape our work around three interconnected streams:

Consultancy

Targeted, specialist input that strengthens bids, design strategies, and project delivery. We help teams:

• Develop inclusive design strategies and access audits

• Integrate heritage sensitivity into landscape and urban identity

• Embed socially and ecologically responsive placemaking

• Create ethical and collaborative design processes

Research

Applied, place-based research that makes complex ideas actionable for design practice. We:

• Bridge theory and practice with usable insights

• Explore equity, diversity, and inclusion in the built environment

• Co-develop collaborative funding bids

• Research the landscape and urban stories of underrepresented communities

Professional Learning (CPD)

Training that challenges, informs, and inspires. We:

• Deliver inclusive public space design workshops

• Create deep, reflective, and rigorously researched learning experiences

• Bring feminist, decolonial, and diverse design perspectives into practice

• Share participatory and co-designed engagement methods
